A self-taught artist, Peter G. Migwans has been creating works since his youth.  As a young boy, born in West Bay, Manitoulin Island, Peter would listen to the lessons and stories of his family and elders. Soon enough, he felt impelled to preserve the heritage of his Ojibway people.  The Woodlands style art he uses—adding his own signature style and vision—depict complex relationships that tell stories to the present—these include various elements of native culture, such as bears, eagles, tepees, fish, and man.

Peter tends to work best when surrounded by his family. The sounds of an active household, especially children’s voices and music, help to get his creativity in gear.

For the past 25 years, Migwans has worked tirelessly to advance the exposure of North American Native art. He is an internationally recognized First Nations oil and acrylic painter and a storyteller in both Ontario and Michigan.
