Henry van Seters is self taught. He works from images he has been recording for decades, rarely taking his bicycle out without a camera along. These images may eventually become paintings, giving his work a historical or documentary feel despite their modern style. He presents the familiar or mundane from a fresh perspective, rendering an often overlooked sign, building or back alley into a compelling image. His work is informed by his years of work in the sign and print industry, where he apprenticed under one of Saskatoon’s finest sign writers.

Henry was born in rural Saskatchewan to immigrant parents and moved to Saskatoon at age three. He currently owns and operates his own Screen Printing shop in Saskatoon, but starts and often ends each day painting in his home studio.
